VIDEO: Disgruntled operator rips through hotel on excavator rampage

With just about everything completed, construction workers at a TraveLodge in Liverpool, England, were cleaning up and preparing to hand the property over to its owners, according to a report from the Washington Post.

“Then some idiot in a mini digger decided to drive through the middle of the building,” Samuel White, a worker at the site, told the Independent.

White said the joyride through the building lasted “a good 20 or 30 minutes,” and said the driver of the excavator claimed he was owed 600 pounds, or $777, the Post reports.

The whole thing was captured on several videos, a few of which you can watch below. In them the operator is heard shouting as he attempts to do as much damage to the interior of the building as possible.

The principal contractor on the project, Triton Construction, said the man worked for one of its subcontractors, MF Construction, “and had been waiting for his manager to arrive with his pay, which he told other workers at the site was late,” the Post reports.

No one was hurt during the incident though the hotel lobby received a fair amount of damage.

The Post reports that a GoFundMe was created to cover the operator’s lost wages with nearly “5,000 pounds ($6,477) in donations as of Tuesday evening.”
