Cat gave its new 963 track loader a boost in power and increased fuel efficiency.

The Cat Tier 4 Final engine increases horsepower from 193 to 202 over the 963K, which the new loader replaces.

The 963’s new C7.1 engine delivers a max torque increase of 15 percent. Its Auto Mode, which matches engine speed to the load, can reduce fuel consumption by 10 percent. Further fuel efficiency can be gained in Eco Mode, the company says. The loader can be operated in Power Mode for high engine speed when needed.

The cab also gets an upgrade with suspension seat with adjustable armrests. Customers can choose either joystick or V-lever and foot pedal controls. Either control setting allows operators to set implement response of fine, normal or coarse.

The loader can be equipped with three buckets:

  • General Purpose, which has a capacity of 3.3 cubic yards and is 101.2 inches wide.
  • Multi-Purpose, which has a capacity of 2.6 cubic yards and is 101.3 inches wide.
  • Performance Series, which Cat says boosts capacity by 20 percent to 3.7 cubic yards and is 105.2 inches wide.

The Fusion Quick Coupler is also available for changing attachments quicker. “A variety of buckets, forks and other tools can be shared among track loaders, wheel loaders and other Fusion-compatible machines,” Cat says.

The 963 can also be configured at the factory for low ground pressure or waste handling versions. The LGP version has ground pressure of 7 pounds per square inch versus 9.1 psi for the standard and waste handler models. It has a track shoe width of 31 inches and ground contact area of 7,136 square inches.

The standard 963 weighs 44,771 pounds; the LGP, 50,181 pounds; and the waste handler, 45,549 pounds.
