VIDEO: Fla. crane collapse narrowly misses workers

A crane fell at about 8:30 a.m. April 5 at the construction site for a new headquarters for the St. Petersburg Police Department barely missing several workers on the scene.

In a video released by the Police Department workers can be seen running as the crane falls.

Several workers were present at the time, but it was fortunate that no one was injured. The fire department confirmed the falling crane left no hazardous conditions and there was minimal damage at the site.

“Several workers were present at the time, but it was fortunate that no one was injured,” the department reported on its Facebook page. “The fire department confirmed the falling crane left no hazardous conditions and there was minimal damage at the site.”

The load of the crane can be see crashing down and then the crane arm landing beside the building under construction.

The crane dropped a 1,000-pound scissor lift, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
